PS 282 School | 1st through 5th Grade | Garden Scientists: STEM-Based Nature & Cooking Afterschool Program
Our Brooklyn Rewilders Fall 2025 Class meets Wednesday, September 17 to December 17 from 2:30-5pm
Grades: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th Graders
Location: PS 282 School Garden
Schedule: Every Wednesday, except school holidays
Garden Scientists is where curious young minds discover the magic of growing food, conducting real scientific research, and becoming stewards of their urban ecosystem through hands-on exploration and delicious cooking adventures.
Each week, students engage in project-based outdoor learning: planting, harvesting, composting, and preparing real food from the garden. They’ll track weather, measure plant growth, observe soil life, and build their own garden journals—all while learning to safely slice, mix, and prep healthy dishes. This real-world curriculum is designed to connect kids with science, nature, and each other.

The program culminates in a community market where students present their research findings and share a feast made with their new skills and knowledge.
Perfect for curious kids who love getting their hands dirty while learning how science connects to the food we eat every day.
Class mostly meets outside in our school garden, with a tented area in case of rain.
