Tuesdays, 2:40-5pm
September 22 to December 15
“Creating Original Theatre” is a ten-week-long laboratory for a small ensemble of young artists to dive into the explorative process of making original theatre together. With tools such as improv exercises, movement exploration, character creation, guided creative writing, and collaborative scene making, this class will be rooted in play, imagination, and ensemble work. Supporting each kid in growing as both an artist and a good collaborator (something I quickly learned is the true foundation of being a good theatre artist), I aim for this class to instill and encourage risk-taking, good listening, and self-confidence in a creative process.
Each artist will receive a “Creative Process Journal” on the first day of class, which will become a home for ideas, drawings, freewrites, character notes, character dialogue, and reflections. Over the course of six weeks, we will build original characters, explore possible character relationships and story worlds, and transform their ideas into playable scenes.
These young artists are imaginative thinkers with original stories to tell, and Talia hopes to facilitate a space where they have the opportunity to explore what they feel passionate about expressing artistically.
While this will be a process-focused class rather than a performance-focused class, the ten weeks will culminate in a small showcase of their works-in-progress.
